Gerry Duhig
It is with great sadness that the UKPA announces the death of Gerry Duhig this week.
Gerry took over as Chair of West Country Polocrosse (now Cotswold Polocrosse) before moving to join Arden Club, until his accident at a tournament in 2002, which resulted in a brain injury. Frances, Danny, Rachael and Agi have shown great love and determination in looking after him at home and he would still enjoy sitting on the sidelines of the pitch watching the game.

Gerry was a very articulate, intelligent and caring man, who delighted in seeing Danny, Agi and other children, enjoy and develop their polocrosse game. Danny went to a rally with Minchinhampton Pony Club to join in a session with Mark and (a young) Tom Simkin, but the family quickly transferred to the VWH Pony Club in 1996, as they were the only Branch playing locally. The family were hooked and they all played, which resulted in a busy weekend, with Gerry rushing to goal judge, umpire, watch Francis and the children play, as well as leap on a horse himself!
He was a proud owner of a binary watch and was very involved in developing the ticketing system for the London Underground over twenty years ago and it was fascinating to listen to him explaining the intricacies of how it would work! Memories of him include – ‘commuting to a caravan just outside London – to juggle two very high powered consultancy jobs. Then hot footing it back at the weekend to play polocrosse – or gutting a caravan & teaching himself to weld so he could kit out a bigger lorry’
Gerry, Frances, Danny & Agi epitomise everything good about Polocrosse, coming to the sport via Pony Club, their commitment was total – that commitment is still there over twenty years later with Danny, Rachel & Riley.
In memory of Gerry, his family would like to raise money for the charities who helped them after his head injury, and also gave Gerry a new lease of life in the last few years.
