Safeguarding
UKPA is committed to creating a safe environment for all participants, especially children and young people.

The welfare and safety of all children involved in UKPA activities is of the highest priority to the UKPA. The sport is meant to be fun and exciting for all players and we strive to ensure that our younger players are fully protected.
The full UKPA child welfare procedures are laid out in the UKPA Handbook and these follow the British Equestrian requirements for its Member Bodies. For further details of the British Equestrian system please see the Safeguarding pages of their website.
The UKPA provides the following support for its affiliated clubs:
- Documentary support by way of proforma codes of conduct and other necessary paperwork.
- Educational material to help teach members about Child welfare
- Online Training courses for Club officials
- DBS checks
- Access to the British Equestrian Federation Safeguarding Advisory Group (FSAG)
- Advice and guidance on actions over CW concerns 24/7
What to do if you have a Child Welfare concern
Your first point of call should be your club Safeguarding Officer, whose details can be found either from your club information or in the UKPA Yearbook. If you are at a tournament or similar you can also approach the event Safeguarding Officer. You should not speak to the person against whom you have concerns.
If you feel that contacting the club/event Safeguarding Officer is not appropriate you can speak to the UKPA Safeguarding and Child Protection Officer.
If at any point you feel you would like to talk to British Equestrian regarding a safeguarding concern, please contact safeguarding@bef.co.uk or call 02476698871. The British Equestrian Safeguarding information can be found at www.britishequestrian.org.uk/getInvolved/safeguarding/what-is-safeguarding.
