Ensuing a safe playing environment is a huge part of our polocrosse game and we know from recent discussions it’s an area that you want us to focus on; not only making it safer for our players and horses but also to keep people playing and to attract new players to have a go and not be put off by any aspects of the game.

The Executive Umpires have worked together reviewing incidents, near miss incidents, video footage and our playing rules and have provided clarification on a number of areas – please take time to read and familiarise yourselves with the changes (click here to download Rule Clarification 2021 document). The Rule Book is just being finalised and will be available shortly but these changes are coming in with immediate effect and will be applied at the Early Season Tournament this weekend.

Our Executive Umpires (see list below) will support the embedding of this clarification and there will be further updates/reminders released over the coming months.

New Umpire Training:

We have four New Umpire Training sessions lined up and spaces can now be booked via gradings@ukpolocrosse.co.uk. These will take place via Zoom and are led by an Executive Umpire so no more having to take umpire tests at tournaments!

  • Wednesday 12 May – 7.30pm – led by Tom Simkin
  • Wednesday 26 May – 7.30pm – led by Iain Heaton
  • Tuesday 8 June – 7.30pm – led by Sharon Kennedy
  • Thursday 24 June – 7.30pm – led by Chris Milburn

Places are limited on each session so please get bookings in ASAP, once booked in more information including call details will be circulated.

Umpire Clothing:

We would like to encourage all our umpires to be dressed appropriately when umpiring and specifically be in a white top – UKPA umpire items (including polo shirt, jumper and umpire tabard) can be purchased directly from the UKPA shop so please take a look at what is available: https://salixembroidery.co.uk/club/ukpa/

Exec Umpires for 2021:

We have 13 Exec Umpires plus 2 who are about to join as Exec Umpires and cover all our clubs through a variety of support mechanisms – please talk to them if you have questions or queries about umpiring or need help in clarifying any aspect of our playing rules.
