UKPA International Teams Framework
Over the last 18 months, helped by a break due to Covid-19, we have conducted a review of PDP, Open Squad and UK Teams. I would like to take this time to thank all those who have helped in this process as it gave us a number of clear areas we felt that we needed to improve, clarify and progress going forward.
Our aim is to give a clearer pathway for those just starting their journey as a junior all the way to World Cup.
The main changes you will see are:
- The Player Development Pathway (PDP) is being extended to included an Open age group, Open will still include familiar processes in the form of a World Cup Program.
- A clear outlining as to how the PDP and our UK teams work together for all ages.
- Making selection process clear for all ages.
- Making governance clear for all ages.
Below are three links to videos that should help explain some of the changes, as well as clarify some procedures already in place.

- Governance Explained – https://youtu.be/WjhLncAmynA
You can also read our new PDP and National Teams Handbook, which again gives a more in depth look into procedures, role descriptions and selection guidance we will be following going forward.
As some of you may notice, there are a number roles we would like to appoint to help us achieve this new framework and we will be asking for anyone interested in applying for a number of positions in the next few days!
For all those who have been in PDP before, or would like to be considered, we will be putting out nomination forms for all in the next few weeks also!
For all members who may not be interested or ready for PDP, the UKPA is still committed to giving development opportunities and trainings open for all! These are currently in the form of our, summer, winter and spring training camps and this year our Early Season training day!
One last point! Veterans! We have not forgotten this age group. There is no mention of this age group in the above framework, this is because the review felt that currently a Veterans PDP would be the wrong direction at this time. The main concern is that a formal framework around veterans could take away from a social side often associated with this age group. So with this in mind we will be putting out more details on our next steps here in due course.
As always any further questions you may have please feel free to contact us!
