A structured programme to develop talented polocrosse players from across the UK towards international representation.
About the Pathway
The UKPA ‘Player Development Pathway’ is a holistic approach that puts players through a continuous journey of development, maximising their potential as team players and creating high performing ambassadors to represent the UKPA and their Clubs.
This training model puts focus on encouraging and developing the skills of young Polocrosse players in the UK by providing them with a fluid pathway along which our most talented players can progress. Players are treated as individuals and are offered individual development schedules and bespoke feedback.
How Can I Apply to Join the Pathway?
Players need to apply to become a member of the PDP and their application must include:
- Nomination Form
- Club Coach Testimonial
- CV of playing experience
The Club Coach Testimonial should include notes on the player's stick work, horsemanship, teamwork and suitability for the process. All applications are considered by the full PDP team of Managers and Coaches. Those who are successful will be expected to sign a Pathway Contract, which includes points such as horse requirements and acceptable behaviour.
What Are the Expectations for a PDP Player?
Players need to be playing at a high level of Polocrosse and pushing themselves to pursue Polocrosse excellence. The PDP programme is not just additional training, and players are expected to commit wholeheartedly to the process.
Players/parents/guardians need to be aware that this is a fluid pathway, and therefore not all players will be invited to every PDP event. Invitations depend on a number of factors: location, age, ability, suitability, session focus, player aims and therefore groups are carefully discussed and decided by the PDP Managers and Coaches prior to each session.
Players should be prepared that there will be feedback they will be expected to take on board, to be worked on in Club trainings for development outside of PDP sessions.
